With all this warm weather we needed a cool treat and so we worked on our cutting skills and made smoothies with the children! I think their favorite part was drinking it!
We also homemade our muffins that we ate for muffins for Mom's!

We also homemade our muffins that we ate for muffins for Mom's! Muffins for Moms! ButterfliesWhat an exciting time when our butterflies hatched at we were able to release them outside! Sorry the blog has been MIA for a few weeks. I have many great pictures and fun activities that we have been doing in the funky fours. As you can tell on our daily sheets we are talking about "things that grow". We have made green houses that are growing in our window. Well I hope they grow. Haha. We have also painted with flowers and had a special visitor that came with a big pig and some pug dogs. The children got to meet the animals and pet them. The children really enjoyed meeting the pig and the dogs. We loved celebrating Ella's birthday! Painting with Flowers Thanks to Davids Mom for providing us with these beautiful flowers that we painted with. The children really enjoyed a different way of painting! The Very Hungry Caterpillar The children loved reading and putting the puzzle together for The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Our Caterpillar traveled to eat all the items listed in the book. The children really enjoyed this interactive book because it allows them to be a part of telling the story and maintains their attention for a longer period of time and grasp key elements of the book. This past week the school released these wonderful bracelets that were made my Moon and Lola to support the children that attend Frankie Lemmon School. The come in gold and silver. If you would like more information on how to order one please contact me by email or phone and I can get you the information that you need to order one. They are super cute! That's all for now. Over and out from the Funky Fours!
-Suzann This week we had many volunteers from NC State. The Sigma Chi Fraternity puts on this big production called Derby Days. This year they raised around 30,000. Go Sigma Chi! Many of the volunteers were from Sigma Chi and sorority's that participated in the Derby Days competition. Two weeks ago we had beautiful weather for transportation day. We have boats, bikes, cars and even a chick-fil-a drive threw. The children really enjoyed playing outside and washing the cars. Two weeks ago we also had a local garden club come and help us plant plants! The children really enjoyed adding the dirt and water to their pants.
What a great week we had in the funky fours! This weather has put everyone in a great mood including me! We started out our transportation unit with a bit of trucks in the mud. This children really loved doing art with trucks and tractors. We also made a big class masterpiece, which was a lot of fun as well. Then what do you do after we get our cars, trucks and tractors dirty? Well we have to wash them! So we also had the children help us have a "carwash" with the vehicles. We also had fun learning and working with shapes to make vehicles. This was a great fine motor activity that we incorporated colors and shapes into! What is there better to do than enjoyed this beautiful weather that we have had this past week. Everyday we learning and play inside. So last week I thought about changing things up and taking play outside! We painted, read books, played with balls, cars and danced to music! Well most of the week was beautiful, but we did get caught in the rain on the playground last week! - Suzann
This week we kicked off our transportation unit. We used our fine motor skills along with many early learning concepts to make our apple and grape boats. Although I tried the apples to make sure they would float in the water, you better believe when the children added the grapes, they all sank right to the bottom. But none the less the children enjoyed playing in the water with apples and grapes. #pinterestfail
Suzann What a busy week it was in the Funky Fours. Rosie the dog came to visit and we had our Valentine's Day party! Rosie is one of the children's favorite visitors. Rosie did tricks and each child got to give Rosie a treat. Valentine's Day Party
Picture Day After one of our volunteers took over 30 photos of the children after the photographer left, this was the best one! You know how challenging it can be to get children to take photos? Let alone 8? I personally think we are a pretty good looking group! I am so fortunate to teach these sweet children and also learn new things from them everyday! Art
Circle Time This past week White got some great photos of the children during circle time. This is by far my favorite time of the day. I get to say good morning to eight wonderful children in silly ways and they get to say good morning to me. Who wouldn't want to be greeting by eight silly faces every morning? The children are also working on recognizing their names and spelling them. Whether its on the Ipad, using ASL, using a switch or verbal communication, everyone has a way to communicate during circle time. Outside/ Noahs Ark Room Many parents have asked what we do when its raining outside and this week I have a few pictures of the Noah's Ark room. We bring in balls, cars, bubbles, and as pictured our bodies turn into personal jungle gyms! haha :) As many of you know this month we are talking about snow and winter themed things. This week we look our winter animals and "played in the snow with them" (whipped cream). This children really like the taste of our snow! We hit our animals under the snow and made them "ice skate". These are the few pictures I got from this activity! As you can see we had loads of fun!
- Suzann All of this cold weather sure makes for great teaching in the classroom! This week we focused on making a classroom snowman, talk about snow, dressing up in winter gear and making snowmen with Hanvey on the Ipad. It was a cold one this week in the funky fours. The children also enjoyed a gross motor activity that we did with Mrs. Jen this week! She had the children working on their muscles but while having fun! Everyone had a good time!
